One of the locals

This fella lives in a paddock not far from me. He just moseys around the paddock, except for a few weeks of the year when he disappears to do his business.

(Sorry for the lack of updates for the last few days, have been otherwise occupied, but rest assured, Milton Daily Photo is back in business)

This is what happens if you go for a Sunday drive at the wrong time........
you get stuck at a cow jam (these cows were crossing the road on their way to milking).

The Kink

The Kink - North to South

The Kink - South to North

In Milton there is an unusual planning anomaly - the main street (Union Street) has a kink in it.
Heading north on the main street the road moves a whole road-width to the west. The reason for the anomaly is disputed. A widely accepted view, but not the official view, states that the road was set out by two surveyors, one moving north and the other moving south, who each set out the road to the right of their survey line.

Continuation from yesterday

Some places are kind enough to provide a tray to place your dirty boots in,
I guess it saves them having to always sweep mud off their door step.

A common site around the shops

In country towns these are a common site,
used to clean your gumboots before heading into a store.

The main street

This is Union Street. The main street (State Highway One) through the middle
of Milton. It is busy all day and night with mainly trucks, but in the height of Summer
there is a constant stream of camper vans as well, heading to either Central Otago, Queenstown
or through to the Caitlins.
(I hope to post about these places one day for you all)

Beautiful still day

A beautiful still day in Milton, sun shining, no wind.
What more could you ask for.
Feels like summer is on the way.

Saturday signs

Another theme I thought I would introduce is "Saturday signs".
This is a new initiative introduced by the local council to get people off the streets at night.
In certain parts of the town you are not allowed to be drinking alcohol, or be carrying opened bottles.

Transport Thursday

I have decided to start a wee theme on some days, just to make my photos a bit more interesting, and make it more exciting taking some photos.
Since I live on a busy main highway through NZ, I see so many different type of transport, trucks, cars, vans, campers etc. So what better thing to do than photograph all the different and interesting forms of transport and the cargo they are carrying.

Here we have the trailer truck. This truck is transporting a load of brand new boat trailers to their new homes.
