A phone box

I found this very amusing... it is not too often now that you see someone in a phone box using the phone. With mobile phones so accessible now, this is just a rare sight.

Saturday Signs: Chain fitting

These signs are periodically placed over the Crown Range. The Crown Range goes between Queenstown and Wanaka, a scenic way to get to Cadrona Ski Field in winter.

Saturday Signs: Old Cromwell

The construction of the Clyde Dam and subsequent filling of Lake Dunstan in the 1980's brought major changes to Cromwell. Gone were two wild rivers... but there is now a beautiful new lake with many shoreline amenities. Acres of orchards were lost... but Cromwell has since become the fruit and wine centre of the south. Cromwell's original commercial area was drowned... but there is now a pleasant new town centre with modern facilities. However, the old town centre with its historic bridge has not been forgotten!

The Arrow River

The Arrow River. Arrowtown is on the banks of the Arrow River. This river is a tributary of the Kawarau River and feeds into the Clutha River. Just such pretty scenery.

The main street of Arrowtown, all the shop fronts have been restored to almost original. It is such a pretty wee town.

Sign Saturday: Gold Nuggets

I have been travelling around a bit lately, into Central Otago, so you will be getting a few photos from the areas of Queenstown, Wanaka and the surrounding area. Another beautiful part of NZ.

Snow in November

We are meant to be heading into Summer..... but this week have had snow down to ground level. Certainly lets you know that Jack Frost can still linger and appear whenever he so wishes.

Transport Thursday: A milk tanker

This is how milk is transported from the farms to the dairy factory. A very common site through town, as cows here are milked twice a day, you normally see these early in the morning, and late afternoon as they do their pick ups.

This is a view of the country scenery with the church from here.
The distance is about 1 - 2km.

Sign Saturday: Spotted at a petrol station

Everyday this petrol station has a new saying. This was the one on the sign when I was there one day. I found it quite funny, if not a tiny bit true.
(Sign Saturday is on Sunday due to Theme Day yesterday).

November Theme Day: Books

As theme day is book, and this is a photo blog, here is a collection of photo albums. In this day and age it is not as easy to find these in peoples homes, as most photos are now digital.
I still like to have a collection in print though, nice to look through every now and again.

Seals

Here are a few seals relaxing. They are a bit early for the season, soon this whole place will be covered in them. I will try to get some more photos at the height of their migration season.

Transport Thursday: A school bus

Children come from far and wide around the district to attend school. This is a typical school bus seen around here.

View out to sea

Here is a view of the Pacific Ocean. If you look far enough you might see South America......... it is somewhere in the yonder. This day it was a bit rough, in the height of summer it can be quite calm here, and the rocks are covered with seals.

Saturday signs: An old one...

This sign was found on the fence at an old wood and coal suppliers yard.
The yard is no longer used, but the sign just appealed to me.

This is the beach nearby, at the river mouth. A nice place for a picnic.

Our local ambulance service here is run by St John. The drivers and paramedics are volunteers, so without them the service wouldn't run. We only have one ambulance here.

Litter

This is a cup from McDonalds that someone kindly deposited in the storm water drains instead of the rubbish bin. Funny though, the nearest McDonalds to here is about 55km away.

Transport Thursday - It's camper season

This camper van was spotted in the main street. There are a number of different companies that are around, this one is from the "Escape" company.

My wooden power poles again. I was just having fun with different angles they day I found these. See another version here.

I spotted this on someone's hedge. There is a blue line that runs the length of the hedge. I guess someone just got bored of graffiting the local buildings and attempted a hedge.

These signs are attached to power poles throughout the town. They advertise different activites and services offered.
This one has a spelling mistake in it, can anyone find it?

Spotted this old crane down by the lake, it certainly hasn't been anywhere in quite some time.

Another one of the locals

I spotted this girl in a paddock while out walking day, she is very friendly.

This fella lives in a paddock not far from me. He just moseys around the paddock, except for a few weeks of the year when he disappears to do his business.
